I just watched a movie called Retreat (a physiological thriller that wasn't half bad) and I spotted an IKEA ALVINE RUTA rug. This rug pops up in things all the time because it is IKEA perfection. It is an affordable $249. It is flat-woven with an easy geometric pattern in dusty yellow and blues that complements any room.
And Hillary has one his her home:
I started watching the MTV show Finding Carter, and like all sets for teens, the kid's hang out spot is extremely colorful, and full of snacks.
Their playhouse/art studio is inside shipping containers. I like the use of a rug on the wall to soften the space, even though I have never cared for the rug they chose.
Here is a shot of the club house exterior at night:
This space is perfectly on trend: bulb string lights, Chinese lanterns, neon cord chairs, etc.
You can purchase your very own neon acapulco chair (egg shape)....everywhere.
And you can get than jazzed up too:
A while back I wrote about my favorite auction house, Susanin's, in Chicago. They have fantastic things in each sale and they are really reasonably priced.......but not if you include shipping to LA. I should probably resist perusing their auction catalogs, but I can't! Here are my top picks in the current sale:
As always, the Long Beach Flea Market and local antique malls totally delivered. We walked away with two rugs, a dining room table, and ten assorted chairs. Mission accomplished.
Our best find was a rug dealer who was selling inexpensive kilim rugs. We ended up purchasing two that I did not photograph, but my favorite was this 6' x 9' pink and blue one, which was under $200. Hillary and I started to rationalize that maybe we need it buy it for our the nursery of our future little girl.....and then we realized we were crazy.
