Mozart in Venice

Mozart in the Jungle, one of my favorite shows, is back, and the season kicks off in Venice with one of my favorite rooms!

Mozart in the Jungle: Season 3, Episode 1 - The home of La Fiamma!

Stripes on top and white marble on the bottom!  Yes please!  Notice how the stripes are made from fabric, instead of paper, with upholstery ribbon around the edges.  And even the door to the kitcen is upholstered to complete the perfection.

Also, shout out to this opera house where each seat is an armchair.

Wood Paneling

GROSS!!!

GROSS!!!

I watched Sleeping Beauty (2011) over the weekend and enjoyed it, although it is pretty provocative, so I'm not recommending it.  Although, look how gorgeous that wood paneling is.

Wood paneling gets a bad rap because it is most closely associated with room from the 70's called "dens" or "rec rooms".  Yellow knotty pine is not the worst atrocity of the 70's, but people are still battling it.

I think the reason the paneling in Sleeping Beauty works is because it is neither yellow (it is more of a walnut color) and does not have knots (just a lovely grain).  As long as you stay away from those two things, there is a lot of wiggle room.

Unicorn Tapestry

I recently visited the Cloisters in New York City for the first time and was overwhelmed by The Unicorn Tapestries (as is everyone else because that is why people go).

But because I'm me, I became fixated on the plants.  There must be wallpaper inspired by this.  Has anyone found it (not counting the wallpaper with repeating unicorns)?

Each flowering plant is an individual sprig, different from its neighbor.  The plants are stacked with minimal depth. Although this was made in 1500-ish, I am confident that a wallpaper interpretation would be timeless.

In my dreams I would have a powder room covered with the stuff so you walked in and were accosted with it.

Masters of Sexy Wallpaper

I really appreciate the wallpaper choice in this brothel.  I like that they broke the wall up into two parts, the main wall and a thin upper section.  They chose a busy ornate pattern for the main wall, and a simple geometric patter for the upper band.  It works for me.
